
The 24th International Congress and Exhibition of the African Water and Sanitation Association, scheduled in February 2028, in Dakar, Senegal, is one of the major events for stakeholders in the water and sanitation sector in Africa.
The congress will bring together the main stakeholders in the water and sanitation sector, including political decision-makers, companies, regulators, technical experts, industrialists, researchers, students... It is part of ongoing efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG 6, which aims to achieve universal access to safe drinking water and sanitation by 2030.
Every two years, the African Water and Sanitation Association (AfWASA) organizes an international congress that brings together all its members, international organizations, experts, policy makers and development partners to take stock of the development of the water, sanitation and environment sector in Africa.
The Congress of the African Water and Sanitation Association is a scientific and technical forum coupled with a major international exhibition, which includes technical sessions, workshops, side events, «B-to-B», «one-to-one» meetings.
Around 3,000 participants are expected to attend this 24th Congress in the Senegalese capital, Dakar.
Objectives of the Congress
The 24th AfWASA International Congress and Exhibition aims, among other objectives, to promote universal access to safe drinking water and sanitation in Africa, while encouraging the adoption of innovative technologies to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The congress will provide a platform to strengthen the skills of sector professionals, share knowledge and best practices, facilitate regional and international collaboration, and address crucial challenges such as climate change, governance and financing of the water and sanitation sector in Africa.
In addition, the congress will encourage dialogue between regulators and service providers, as well as the creation of professional networks. Through these objectives, the aim is to assess progress made, identify sustainable solutions and set priorities for the coming years, while strengthening the resilience of the water and sanitation sector in Africa; the ultimate goal being the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6.
