Maji-Africa Webinar: Two Young African Female Researchers to Share Their Work on Sustainable Water Management and Treatment
As part of its Maji-Africa webinar series, the African Water and Sanitation Association (AfWASA) is once again giving a platform to young African researchers. On October 15, 2025, two presentations will highlight innovative approaches to strengthen sustainable water management and promote local innovation in surface water treatment.
Modeling the Roles of Traditional Institutions in Sustainable Water Management in Nigeria
The first study, presented by Abigael Bankole, a Nigerian researcher and water governance consultant, explores the role of traditional institutions in local water governance. By modeling the roles and interactions between traditional leaders, communities, and public authorities, the research demonstrates that customary knowledge and mechanisms can effectively contribute to the preservation of water resources.
Comparative study of natural coagulants and chemical coagulants in the surface water treatment process: the case of Burkina Faso
The second presentation, delivered by Assétou OUEDRAOGO / MONNE, a chemical engineer at ONEA (Burkina Faso), focuses on the performance of natural coagulants derived from Boscia senegalensis compared to commonly used chemical coagulants such as aluminum sulfate and Sudfloc. Conducted on surface water samples from Burkina Faso, this study highlights the ecological and economic advantages of using local natural products.
These two studies reflect the goal of the Maji-Africa webinar series: to promote African research, knowledge sharing, and the development of local solutions within the WASH sector.
The webinar will provide an opportunity to interact with the researchers, discuss their results, challenges, and the potential application of their work in the field.
Join us on October 15, 2025, for another inspiring session of the Maji-Africa webinar, organized by AfWASA and its partners.
